A necklace is selected by its total length, including the clasp. Where it rests varies with your neck, body proportions and pendant.
Find your preferred length
Measure an existing chain end to end, or place a piece of string where you want a necklace to rest and measure that length. Allow for any pendant below the chain.

Make it your own
Try the length with your intended neckline. For layering, leave room between chains so each piece can be seen. Use your own measurement to check the drop; photographs and diagrams are illustrative.
